17 nonprofit organizations launch a new report — Oil, Gas and The Climate: An Analysis of Oil and Gas Industry Plans for Expansion and Compatibility with Global Emission Limits — and call for a phase out of production.

WHAT: The Global Gas and Oil Network supported by Oil Change International; 350.org; Center for Biological Diversity; Center for International Environmental Law; CAN-Rac Canada; Earthworks; Environmental Defence Canada; Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales: FARN; Global Witness; Greenpeace; Milieudefensie (Friends of the Earth Netherlands); Naturvernforbundet; Observatorio Petrolero Sur; Overseas Development Institute; Platform; Sierra Club; and Stand.Earth will release a report outlining oil and gas sector plans to invest USD 1.4 trillion developing new oil and gas projects between 2020 and 2024.

The expert panel will discuss implications for staying below 1.5°C of warming, where new oil and gas projects are planned, and the 25 companies responsible for nearly half of the planned extraction.

Expansion in the United States, Canada, and Argentina will be highlighted as the countries where most of the new extraction is planned for. Examples of actions to curb new fossil fuel production and restrict financing of new oil and gas production will be presented.
