Sixty years ago, Rachel Carson sparked our modern environmental movement. But sixty years of denial has pushed us to the brink of climate catastrophe.

The old saying goes, when in a hole, stop digging. So when your country is on fire, put out the fire and take action to stop further fires in the future.

For years, Big Oil and Big Coal have carried on drilling and mining as if they were immune from the consequences of their actions. They knew the risks, but ignored them. Now they must pay.

This is climate madness. This is nonsensical. As Australia burns, it carries on drilling, fracking and mining.

How many fires will it take, how many deaths will it take, how many sick struggling to breathe or unclog their lungs from the toxic smoke, before Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison stands up to the fossil fuel lobby and instead stands for the people who elected him?

When politicians fail to address the climate crisis – we have no choice but to rise up and shut down the fossil fuel industry.

As the fires rage and Australia warms, it is only natural that Australians are becoming increasingly worried about climate change, droughts and floods. However, rather than recognize our climate emergency, the minister responsible for responding to drought and natural disasters in the country, David Littleproud, is a climate denier. He has said that that he doesn’t “know if climate change is manmade”.

"This landmark decision sends a clear message to the fossil fuel industry that it cannot continue to expand if we are serious about tackling climate change."

“Why should I be studying for a future that soon may be no more, when no one is doing anything to save that future?"

A week on from Black Friday, Australian children are planning a “Big School Walkout for Climate Action”, to demand greater action by the government of climate denier, Scott Morrison.
