As Extinction Rebellion shuts down parts of London and other major citities, with ironic timing, the UK has approved four new gas-fired turbines against the advice of its own inspectors.

For years, Cuadrilla has ignored climate science, ignored the geology, and ignored local people and politicians. And despite millions being spent by naïve and belligerent investors, their efforts have resulted in a fracking failure.

Trudeau was called a climate hypocrite back in June and he is being called a climate hypocrite now. As Greta says: listen to the science. We can’t build any more pipelines if we want a safe climate.

No longer will our movement quiver in the face of the power of the fossil fuel industry. No longer will we let the politicians unwilling to stand up to those creating this crisis off the hook. No more weak pledges, no more vague promises or flowery statements.

Millions of people are marching and striking in over 150 countries. Today is going to be the biggest climate protest in history. Today, we make history. And tomorrow will be different. Business as usual will be no more.

In these dark times, with daily doses of bad news of our growing climate emergency, we have to celebrate every climate victory we get. And last Friday there was one such victory.

The Waorani people of Ecuador have won a historic victory in court protecting half a million acres of their territory in the Amazon from oil drilling.

OPEC concedes that climate campaigners are "perhaps the greatest threat to our industry going forward".

Even though the science says we cannot carry on drilling, the oil industry capital investment over the next decade is forecast to rise over 85%, reaching over $1 trillion a year.
