Oil Change International Response to the Interception and Abduction of the Global Sumud Flotilla

“Oil Change International condemns Israel’s illegal interception and abduction of the Sumud flotilla in international waters and the abuse and mistreatment of hundreds of the civilians on board, including doctors, parliamentarians, and human rights defenders from nearly 50 countries. These everyday people were engaged in a lawful humanitarian mission, protected under the Geneva Conventions. As governments worldwide escalate repression against peaceful protest, the Sumud flotilla reminds us that there can be no climate justice without human rights, and no freedom while genocide continues in Gaza.

“Oil Change International is in solidarity with all those who took part in the Sumud flotilla, and with the Palestinian people enduring genocide and displacement. We call for the immediate release of those still detained, an immediate end to Israel’s military assault and blockade, the protection of humanitarian aid deliveries, and an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Our research, Behind the Barrel, reveals the countries and companies behind Israel’s fossil fuel supply. We call on states to consider that their military or other assistance to Israel’s military operations in Gaza may put them at a risk of being complicit in genocide under the Genocide Convention.”
