“Everything that’s wrong with Trump’s agenda”: Oil Change International’s Response to Approval of CP2 LNG Terminal
For immediate release
By approving CP2, the Trump administration is prioritizing his fossil fuel donors’ profits over communities’ health and safety and a stable climate.
In response to the Trump administration’s approval of the Calcasieu Pass LNG 2 (CP2) LNG terminal, Oil Change International U.S. Campaign Manager Allie Rosenbluth said:
“The Trump administration’s conditional approval of Calcasieu Pass LNG 2 (CP2) illustrates everything that’s wrong with Trump’s fossil fuel agenda. It comes on the same day as Trump welcomes oil and gas industry donors to the White House to brag about the favors he’s done them – clear evidence of who this administration actually serves.
“Over the course of the last election cycle the fossil fuel industry spent $445 million to influence Trump and Congress. By approving CP2, the Trump administration is prioritizing his fossil fuel donors’ profits over communities’ health and safety and a stable climate. There is overwhelming evidence, including from the Department of Energy itself, that U.S. LNG exports mean higher energy bills, accelerated climate chaos, toxic pollution in frontline communities, and LNG expansion outpacing global demand.
“Investors should remain wary of this project as Trump’s ‘drill, baby, drill’ and trade war policies result in volatility and as people across the country stand with people in the Gulf South fighting to stop CP2 and other LNG expansion.”
