Oil Change International Media Advisory – COP29 November 21

As COP29 enters its final stretch amid devastating climate impacts—with unprecedented storms battering the Philippines, negotiators are in a race against time to deliver a new climate finance goal (NCQG) that matches the scale of the crisis. The world is watching to see if wealthy nations will finally move beyond empty promises and inadequate private finance schemes to deliver the public grants needed for urgent climate action. The path forward is clear: rich countries can mobilize over $5 trillion annually through ending fossil fuel subsidies, taxing the super-rich, and making polluters pay. With the clock ticking in Baku, negotiators must secure an agreement that delivers at least $1 trillion yearly in public finance to support Global South countries in implementing climate solutions and a fair fossil fuel phaseout.
