The world’s five largest international oil companies (IOCs) and five largest U.S. independent refiners made over US$65 billion in profits in the second quarter of 2026 as conflicts in the Persian Gulf and Ukraine spiked oil prices and caused refined fuel supply constraints. As thousands die in the relentless bombardments of drones and ballistic missiles, the oil and gas industry reaps windfall profits in a year that was looking to be a loser before the bombs started falling.

They say the truth will come out. It might take years or decades, but finally the truth will eventually come out. For decades, in what has become a multi-generational fight, the communities of the Niger Delta have fought Shell for its rampant pollution and environmental devastation.

After thirty years, the fight for environmental justice is as strong as ever in the Niger Delta.

In the UK, despite hundreds of millions being spent and no commercial projects in operation, a further £25 billion has been promised in new subsidies for Carbon, Capture and Storage (CCS) and Hydrogen. This is greater than the supposed £22 billion black hole that the previous Conservative Government left the new Labour government. If Labour is looking for a quick fix to find money to fund the winter fuel allowance, they should scrap these wasteful handouts to the fossil fuel industry.

We have known for over a decade just how damaging fracking is to our health. But the health impacts of exporting fracked gas have often been overlooked.
