Why: Japanese public institutions and private megabanks are among the largest financiers of LNG projects along the U.S. Gulf Coast – including Freeport LNG. The communities around the Japan-backed LNG facility suffer the health, environmental, and economic consequences of these investments. As Japan deepens its fossil fuel ties with the United States, Texas leaders are traveling to Tokyo to directly speak with financiers and demand accountability.
